On November 25, Hanaa Al Sharief had the incredible honour of delivering the congratulatory remarks to new Canadians at an Enhanced Citizenship Ceremony, hosted by the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
The ICC is a non-profit organization that welcomes newcomers to Canada and provides them with the chance to become fully involved in Canada’s history, culture and politics. ICC’s Enhanced Citizenship Ceremonies celebrate the abundance of diversity and culture that constitutes Canada and reflects upon what it means to be Canadian. As the Government of Canada’s largest ceremony partner, the ICC has delivered more than 400 Enhanced Citizenship Ceremonies, which focus on celebrating the journey of citizenship and advocating for equal opportunities for those who seek to obtain it.
As an immigrant herself, and a Canadian immigration lawyer, Hanaa prides herself on supporting those who tackle the journey of Canadian immigration; a path that is often filled with obstacles, sacrifices and extreme effort.
In the past year, the ICC has had several notable speakers, such as Commander Chris Hadfield, Tareq Hadhad – founder of Peace by Chocolate, Assembly of First Nations – National Chief RoseAnne Archibald, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and David Suzuki.
