Practice Overview

Hanaa is a qualified lawyer with 10 years of experience gained while working in Canada and internationally. Throughout her career, Hanaa has helped individuals and clients in the aviation, construction, education, engineering, fishing and manufacturing sectors, as well as government, educational and healthcare institutions tackle business, commercial, construction, immigration and employment related issues.

Hanaa was called to the Nova Scotia bar in 2009 and articled with a leading regional law firm in Halifax where she gained experience in corporate and commercial, employment and immigration law and litigation.  In 2010, Hanaa joined the firm where Nancy F. Barteaux, Q.C. then practiced and Hanaa focused her practice on commercial litigation, employment and insurance defence.  In 2015, Hanaa left Halifax to pursue her dream of getting international education and experience and completed a professional LLM in business and Intellectual Property Law at the University of California in Berkeley. She then moved to the Sultanate of Oman in the Middle East where she worked at the largest international law firm in the world advising clients on a range of civil and commercial disputes with a particular focus on construction arbitration.

In 2021, Hanaa returned to her law firm “home,” Barteaux Labour and Employment Lawyers Inc., to develop an immigration practice to assist individuals and businesses with their immigration related needs.  Hanaa’s decision to practice immigration law stems from her personal understanding of the immigration process which she went through when she immigrated to Canada with her family 25 years ago. She understands the complexity of immigration related issues as she has helped many family members with their Canadian immigration applications. As well, during law school, Hanaa volunteered at the Halifax Refugee Clinic and successfully represented refugees seeking asylum in Canada.
